Amp & Cab Refurbishment / Retolex Service

Give your gear a second life—with style.

Got an amp or cab that’s seen better days? Maybe the tolex is torn, peeling, or just plain tired. Maybe the years have left their mark, and you’re finally ready to do something about it. Whether it’s a vintage treasure in need of TLC or a solid modern workhorse that deserves a facelift, Noisy Hammer's Refurbishment & Retolex Service is here to restore, revive, and completely reimagine your gear.

This is more than a reskin. It’s a custom transformation—done by hand, by specialists who live and breathe this stuff.

Why Refurbish With Noisy Hammer?

We’re not just another repair shop. We’re the UK’s only dedicated custom shop for guitar cabinets and amplification accessories, with decades of combined experience in joinery, cabinet building, and sound engineering. From fully custom builds to one-of-a-kind restoration jobs, our workshop is a space where traditional craftsmanship meets creative, modern flair.

  • Tailored finishes using top-tier materials

  • Built and refurbished in the UK, by musicians—for musicians

What’s Included in the Refurbishment / Retolex Service?

We take on a wide range of restoration and reworking jobs, whether cosmetic or structural. Here’s what our service typically covers:

Full Tolex Replacement

  • We’ll carefully remove your old tolex covering, clean up the cabinet surface, and apply a fresh, high-quality tolex of your choice.

  • Choose from a wide range of colours, textures, and finishes—classic black, British-style levant, snakeskin, fawn, oxblood, tweed, red, purple, white, custom-ordered finishes, and more.

  • Heat-bonded for long-lasting durability and a clean, professional finish.

Grille Cloth Replacement (Optional Add-On)

  • If your grille cloth is frayed, stained, or just not your style anymore, we can replace it with a fresh option. We stock a variety of weaves and colours, including vintage Marshall-style salt-and-pepper, Fender-style wheat, black, white, cane, basketweave, and custom orders.

Structural Cabinet Repairs

  • Loose joints? Damaged corners? Warped panels? We’ll assess and restore the structure of your cab or combo, ensuring it’s as solid and road-ready as the day it was built.

Hardware Refitting & Replacements

  • Need new handles, feet, corner protectors, or jack plates? We can fit new or refurbished hardware as part of your overhaul. Bring us the parts or let us source the right kit for you.

Custom Detailing Available

  • Want piping, contrasting tolex panels, laser-etched badges, coloured stitching, or anything else? Let’s get creative. This is your chance to turn standard into standout.

What You’ll Get Back

When we’re done, you won’t just have your old cab back—you’ll have something that looks and feels brand new, with years of life added to it.

  • A beautifully re-covered, structurally sound amp or cab

  • Fully cleaned and detailed

  • Eye-catching, stage-ready aesthetics that turn heads and spark conversations

How It Works

  • Drop-Off or Shipping

  • If you're local, you can drop off your gear at our workshop (located in the UK). Otherwise, we’ll advise on safe shipping and packing methods to get your unit to us securely.
  • Assessment & Confirmation

    • We’ll fully assess the condition of your amp or cab upon arrival and confirm the job scope. If we spot anything unexpected (like hidden damage or mold), we’ll contact you first.

  • Craftsmanship in Progress

    • The refurbishment begins! Depending on workload and complexity, expect a turnaround time of 1–3 weeks.

  • Collection or Delivery

    • You’ll be notified as soon as your gear is ready. Local customers can collect, or we can ship it back securely, fully insured.

Perfect For:

  • Vintage Restorations – Bring old classics back to life.

  • Gigging Gear – Tired road warriors deserve a fresh skin.

  • Home Studio Rigs – Make your setup match your sound.

  • Rebranding – Give your amp a look that matches your band or brand.

Why It Matters

We believe a great amp should inspire you before you even hit the first chord. The way your gear looks—whether it’s a classic Marshall-style head, a Fender-style combo, or something entirely your own—should reflect your sound, your stage presence, and your identity as a player.

If you’re serious about tone, you should be serious about presentation too.

This isn’t just a refurb—it’s a second chance for your gear to turn heads and make noise again.

FAQs

Do you retolex amps with internal electronics still in place?
Yes, we can, but in most cases, we recommend removing chassis and speakers where possible for safety and to achieve the cleanest result. We’re happy to help with removal and reinstallation if needed.

Can I supply my own tolex or grille cloth?
Yes! If you’ve already got a specific material or vintage stock you want us to use, just let us know.

Do you work on non-guitar-related speaker enclosures?
Absolutely—we’ve retolexed PA speakers, studio monitors, subwoofers, and more. If it’s a speaker box, we can probably make it look great again.

Do you offer collection and delivery?
Yes, within certain UK regions. Contact us to check availability and costs.

Return Shipping is included free in the price.
